While Hispanics comprise one-fourth of Hillsborough County’s total population, it’s one of the most challenged minority groups, with Latino children underperforming dramatically in their earliest years of school.
This is a truly disturbing statistic because quite often, the elementary school years are when children develop study habits and characteristics that span their entire educational careers. Helping them develop the right routine, mindset and attitude early on is essential in their academic growth.
Your Hispanic Services Council works to ensure that young Latino children are prepared to enter school and achieve lifelong academic success through their high school and college careers.
Between 2000 and 2010, Florida’s Hispanic population grew from 2.7 million to 4.2 million – a 57% increase!
With this rapid growth comes great responsibility as Hispanics have increasing influence over many of the state’s most important issues. Having an involved, prepared, engaged Latino population making educated decisions will better shape the future of our community.
Your Hispanic Services Council works to create opportunities that allow Latinos to organize around pressing issues and develop action plans to influence policy and systems change.
