Community Assistant

Job Description: Community Assistant will support the local community through effective communication, presentation, and outreach efforts to recruit parents for our programs. This position seeks to improve the information in our local communities by sharing up-to-date information about HSC programs and especially La Red de Padres Activos program. The CA is the first point of contact between members of the community and HSC. Responsible for helping the Community Coordinators and the Parenting Skills Coordinators at parenting workshops facilitating activities with children and youth, coordinating logistics at workshops to include set up and cleanup. Reports to Community Coordinator. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

 

  1. Recruit at least 22 parents per Year to participate in La Red programs and services.

  2. In coordination with Community Coordinators and Parenting Skills Coordinator, design and implement age-appropriate children’s activities for parent workshops

  3. Help with the logistics of set up and clean-up of venues during parent workshops and other health classes/events.

  4. Promote wellness, healthy behavior information, and referrals as needed.

  5. Professionally represent HSC at events and in meetings with community partners.

  6. Responsible for the set-up and the take-down of event materials and equipment.

  7. Submit reports and timesheets that document accurately and consistently program activities and work carried out.

  8. Play an active role in promoting HSC programs and services to community members including the education programs (La Red de Padres Activos), the health program and services (Puentes de Salud), and Civic Engagement program and services (Immigration services).

  9. Actively participate in staff meetings, trainings, and conferences as required.

  10. Perform all functions and activities within the guidelines set forth by HSC’s mission, vision, goals, and policies.

  11. Do other relevant duties as assigned.

 

 

Desired knowledge, skills, and traits:

●       Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish and English (verbal and written). Spanish is required, English is a plus.

●       Work or volunteer experience working with children.

●       Computer proficient and knowledge of how to use MS office programs including;  Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  Able to quickly learn how to use video-conferencing platforms such as Zoom and MS Teams.

●       Knowledgeable about the local community.

●       Comfortable working with diverse populations and in diverse settings (virtual, in-person, churches, homeless, community organizations, inside and outside locations, etc).

●       Ability to relate to people regardless of age, background, culture, education, experience, and/or language.

●       Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

●       Self-motivated with an ability to work in teams as well as work independently with minimal supervisory direction to accomplish established goals.

●       Have reliable transportation, driver’s license, and auto insurance

●       Flexibility in work schedule and programmatic requirements. Available to work some evenings and some weekends

●       Ability to organize information, events, schedule, and program activities.

●       Pass a level 2 background check.

●       Able to lift 25-pound (12kg) boxes and transport them to various locations.

 

This position is grant funded and hours may be reduced or eliminated based on funding sources.


Hourly Salary: $ 15/h
